The English Language Learning (ELL) Graduate Certificate is designed for practicing teachers interested in working with students who are unable to communicate fluently or learn effectively in English, who often come from non-English-speaking homes and backgrounds, and who typically require specialized or modified instruction in both the English language and in their academic courses.

Certificate Requirements

Completion of this certificate requires the following five (5) UMF courses:

• EDU 502 - Second Language Acquisition   Credits: 3
• EDU 503 - Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and English Language Learners   Credits: 3
• EDU 504 - English Language Learners: Equity, Inclusion, and Family Engagement   Credits: 3
• EDU 505 - Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for ELLs  Credits: 3
• EDU 511 - Evidence and Inquiry Based Strategies for Working with ELLs  Credits: 3
