HEA 243 - Nutrition and Obesity This course is an introductory overview of the association between nutrition, nutrition behavior, and weight status. It explores the initial emergence of obesity, the underlying reasons why an obesity epidemic exists, and uncovers the difference between what we normally consume for food compared to what our bodies are evolutionarily designed to eat. Additional discussions include the adverse health outcomes associated with obesity, eating and feeding disorders, the stigmatization of weight in society, the multi-billion dollar ‘diet’ industry, and the role of industrialization and technology in the creation and prevention of obesity. Application of information for health education and promotion will be considered. Course Typically Offered: Every fall.
