MUH 254 - A History of Music and Time Music creates a sonic experience in time. In this course we will study music from different cultures and historical periods, exploring a diversity of human perceptions of time. Topics include 19th-century narrative time to music conceived as “relative time” after Einstein in the 20th; or the God’s time in the Middle Ages to the concept of “ma” in Japanese music. For students with an openness to new sounds, ideas, and constructions of time. Course Typically Offered: Every 2 years.
Prerequisite(s): Sophomore status or permission of instructor
