PSY 540 - Diagnosis and Treatment This course will provide students with an understanding of psychopathology, the utilization of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in clinical practice, assessment, and intervention of mental health diagnoses. Students will learn to conceptualize mental health disorders and their etiologies within various schools of counseling theory including how assessment (e.g., intake interviews) inform the process of diagnosis and treatment planning. Additionally, students will identify ethical issues related to research and practice, the various definitions of normality and abnormality, and the significant impact of culture and diversity on diagnosis and treatment planning.
