ENG 293 - Studies in Nonfiction Literature


In this course students will explore a wide variety of forms of contemporary literary nonfiction, otherwise known as “the literature of fact” or “creative nonfiction.” The topic for the course may vary each time it is offered, focusing on an author, a historical period, or a specific type of nonfiction. Examples of topics may include queer memoir, American lives, the personal and lyric essay, the art of the rant, literary journalism, the nonfiction novel, graphic nonfiction, environmental writing, food writing, the literature of journey and quest, writing about place, flash-nonfiction, or other topics. The course will focus primarily on American authors.  Pass/Fail: Pass/Fail option Course Typically Offered: Every 2 years.

Prerequisite(s): For all students, ENG 100 Writing Seminar ; for students in CWR, ENG, SEN, or ELE-Language Arts, ENG 100 and ENG 181 Literary Analysis and Interpretation  or permission of instructor.
