POS 246 - The History and Future of Cannabis


The legalization of cannabis in Maine for medical purposes in 1999, and for recreational use 2016, broke with a long tradition of seeing marijuana as a danger to society and public health.  The course explores the evolution of cannabis and cannabis policy over time, including the myths, cultural beliefs, prohibition and ultimate legalization.   Looking towards the future, how will cannabis policy likely develop, taking into account diverse state and federal laws?  What will be the impact of the legalization of cannabis? Course Typically Offered: Every 3 semesters.
