ECS 204 - Early Language and Literacy Instruction in Early Childhood Special Education


This course familiarizes students with language acquisition in children ages birth - 5 and with emergent literacy. It introduces students to connections between oral language, writing, and reading, in addition to delays and disabilities related to these areas.  Students will be introduced to evidenced-based strategies for early reading instruction, including phonemic awareness, phonics, and more, and how to appropriately use these strategies in infant/toddler, preschool, and intervention settings. Prerequisite(s): ECH 150 Introduction to Early Childhood Education  and ECS 103 Introduction to Teaching Early Childhood Special Education
