PSY 209 - Abnormal Psychology This course provides an overview and introduction to the field of clinical psychology. To start, we review definitions and historical perspectives on abnormal behavior and mental health assessment and treatment. Symptoms, associated characteristics, etiology, and treatment for different disorders will be discussed. Discussion of etiology, assessment, and treatment embraces a stance of cultural humility and considers the role of sociocultural influences on mental health. At the conclusion of this course, it is expected that you will be able to discuss the complexity of human behavior and controversies in defining abnormal behavior, critically evaluate information and resources regarding abnormal behavior and mental health treatment and demonstrate increased compassion for individuals with psychological disorders. Pass/Fail: Pass/Fail option Course Typically Offered: Every semester.
Prerequisite(s): PSY 101 or PSY 225 or permission of the instructor.
