ECS 306 - The Opioid Crisis, Young Children, and Families Focuses on how children and families are affected by the opioid crisis nationally and in Maine. Students will study the social determinants of substance use, including factors influencing addiction and treatment, and the effects of opioids on child development, with special attention paid to Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and development across developmental domains. Models of care and resources for supporting children and families affected by substance use are explored. Course Typically Offered: Varies.
