MUH 250 - The Piano: Music, People, Histories

From the ancient Greek water organ to the Moog Synthesizer, Bach’s Goldberg Variations to silent film piano accompaniments, and Thelonious Monk’s Round Midnight to the keyboard as digital input-the piano and its keyboard cousins have been an integral part of history. This course considers the development of the keyboard in music as well as a reflection of broader cultural trends. Piano-playing ability or musical background is not required; openness to a diversity of music and sounds is. Course Typically Offered: Every 2 years.

Prerequisite(s): Sophomore status or permission of the instructor.

Credits: 3
