The minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies spans numerous disciplines and presents an opportunity for students in any major to study this geographic region from various perspectives. The minor is designed to enhance personal learning and provide an area of focus for students who may be looking to pursue careers in international studies and/or work within Latin America and the Caribbean.
Students choosing this minor need to complete the equivalent of five four-credit courses, representing three different disciplines, from the following list, meeting the criteria outlined below.
- No more than four credits in a student’s major may be counted toward the minor requirements,
- At least three of the courses must be a 200-level or higher.
- Courses taken while studying abroad in a Latin American or Caribbean country may be considered for the minor at the discretion of the Latin American and Caribbean Interest Group.
- Additional topics or related courses may be considered for the minor at the discretion of the Latin American and Caribbean Interest Group,

Total Credits for the Minor: 20
A minimum of one third of the required credits must be earned at UMF for a minor to be awarded.
