The concentration in Arts Administration combines studies in business and the arts with an emphasis in music, theatre, or an individualized option. Students are challenged to develop independent thinking that transcends traditional boundaries as they engage the increasingly interdisciplinary world of the arts. Project 1, where majors join faculty in the investigation of a topic or idea, helps first-year students learn to make a unique contribution within a community. In Project 2, juniors and seniors work in small groups, and largely separate from faculty, as they conceive, create, and present a project in a public setting. Project 3 is the disciplinary capstone, providing seniors the opportunity to work in the field as they culminate their study at UMF and prepare their career after UMF.

Application Courses:
All students are required to complete an Internship prior to the last semester. Music Emphasis
- Twenty credits in MUS or MUH, chosen in consultation with the advisor, with no more than eight credits at the 100 level Credits: 20
Theatre Emphasis
- Twenty credits in THE, chosen in consultation with the advisor, with no more than eight credits at the 100 level. Credits: 20
Individualized Emphasis
- Twenty credits from BUS, ECO, MUH, MUS, and/or THE, with no more than eight credits at the 100 level, chosen in consultation with the advisor. Credits: 20

Learning Goals and Assessment
Learning Goals:
Students graduate from the Arts Administration program:
- with professional expertise in the arts, their area of emphasis (music or theatre) and business. Equally important, graduates are able to think beyond disciplinary boundaries, something of particular importance in the arts field.
- with the independence to create, manage their own projects, and work with others in a community setting.
- with the ability to write effectively in multiple genres such as artist statements, research papers, and creative work.
- already familiar with the world beyond UMF through travel (preferably international), engagement of the field (conferences, concerts, contacts), and insights brought by visiting faculty
Emphases:
Music: Students graduating with an emphasis in music
- demonstrate knowledge of different musical cultures, genres, and historical periods, and an understanding of the connections and contrasts between them.
- demonstrate understanding of music as text; that is, something which is part of culture and experienced through multiple perspectives.
- demonstrate, through writing and creating music, an understanding of technology and how it continues to shape the arts.
- Are able to use an understanding of audience to bring complex and abstract ideas to society and connect people to music that lies outside of the mainstream.
Theatre: Students graduating with an emphasis in theatre
- demonstrate effective verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
- are able to implement standards for evaluating the art of performance and theatre productions.
- demonstrate understanding of dramatic script analysis and a broad base knowledge of plays and theatre styles.
- present work informed by an understanding of world theatre and theoretical developments.
- demonstrate a solid fundamental education in acting, directing and technical design.
Individualized: Students electing the Individualized emphasis will develop a customized set of learning outcomes with their advisor, using it as a guide for choosing the most appropriate courses.
